Therapy is something that people used to avoid talking about back in the olden days. It was forbidden in many ways. They saw it as a sign of weakness if someone was in therapy and needed to talk to a therapist. However, in all honesty, they are not weak. They are just sick the same way that anyone else would be sick with something that is physical. There is a motto in the mental health community and it is “sick not weak.” It means that the person suffering from mental illness is not weak and it does not mean they can’t handle life. It just means they are sick and have a chemical imbalance. There is nothing wrong with being sick, as it is not something they can control.
This does not need to be explained to the fine folks over at Talkspace. They understand mental health and they know all of the tricks of the trade. They know what people need to feel better and get better in life. They are tremendous listeners and they ask great questions. One of the greatest traits for a therapist is the ability to listen. They can listen to their clients through a video chat, a text message, or a phone call.
When they listen and ask the right questions, it is only a matter of time before the client opens up and they get to what is really bothering them and why they feel the way they do on certain days. The goal is to have way more good days than bad days with mental illness. When that occurs, they are not letting the illness completely control their lives. The therapist is going to help them and they are going to stand by them through thick and thin. They can truly count on them for great support.
